In one of the biggest stories to come out of Athens, Georgia since Herschel Walker lead the "Dawgs" to a National Championship and REM released their last album, Barrett Davis was accepted into the prestigious Terry College of Business at University of Georgia. The Terry College was ranked as the 12th best Management Information System program in the nation by US News and World Reports. Unfortunately not many people read about this as the magazine is no longer sent to subscribers and only exists as an online publication.
Behind the excitement this news has generated are some ugly back stories. Barrett was accepted into the program after the 2011 application deadlines had passed. Some are calling this the" Immaculate Acceptance" or are buzzing about some shady back room deals. This is on the heels of accounting firm Reznick Associates contributing $250,000 to the Terry College. Was it a sum on money like this- new computers and IPAD Tablets for certain faculty members-copies of lewd text messages to UGA coeds- or illegally downloaded DVDs of Dexter? Nobody will go on record.
The one thing to emerge from this is some really proud members of the Barrett Davis fan club.Congratulations!!!!!

My Friends From China
I help two companies that promote the use of energy efficient lighting to companies who want to save money on their electrical bills. These lights are made in China so each day I get about 10-15 emails from Chinese companies trying to sell their lamps to my clients. As you know, I do not speak Chinese and these companies sorta know English so they are ahead of me but not by much. All these emails come from nice people named Judy or Amy. Yesterday I got an email from Mr. Robinson. Does he know his wife invested in Plastic?
This all reminds me of the old joke on Get Smart- " Not Craw- Craw!" Only Carolyn will remember this one. here is a sample of my mail from my friends in China.

But Dad They Have The Type of IT Classes I Need
I fell for it... again! By the way I did not see UConn on this list.
The University of Georgia was named the No. 1 party school in the nation Monday, adding to the beer-soaked reputation UGA leaders are trying to shed.
UGA climbed up from No. 4 to snatch the top spot on the annual list compiled by the Princeton Review. The university has the distinction -- or disgrace, depending on your perspective -- of being on the top 20 party list for 10 of the past 13 years.
“UGA does have a party atmosphere, there’s always a party going on,” said Catherine Hobbs, a senior with a double major in finance and sports management. “This list is funny. It sounds crazy, almost like a cool factor. But people need to understand the parties go on at night. We do actually go to class and study.”
Joshua Delaney, the student body president, joked that the list isn’t used as a recruiting tool.
“It’s not like anyone is saying come here and party,” Delaney said. “If students want to do that, that’s their decision. It’s just important for people to do it responsibly.” University leaders have long pooh-poohed the rankings, which are based on student responses.
"UGA has been on the party school list for a while, but it’s one we prefer not to lead," spokesman Tom Jackson said in a statement. "We’d rather focus on the Green Honor Roll listing as a top environmentally conscious campus or the top 50 ‘Best Values' listing. The University of Georgia takes student alcohol education programs very seriously and will continue to do so."
President Michael Adams has launched several initiatives to curb student drinking and eliminate the school’s party image. The university has instituted tougher sanctions against students caught drinking, and it has tightened rules for game-day tailgating. UGA officials have emphasized books over bars, noting that the average SAT score and grade-point average of incoming freshmen increases each year.
Students who don’t like the party atmosphere at UGA could attend its polar opposite. Brigham Young University in Utah has been No. 1 on the “stone cold sober” list for 12 consecutive years.
Want to party?
The Princeton Review used student responses concerning alcohol and drug use, hours spent studying and the popularity of Greek life to compile a list of the top 20 party schools. They are:
1. University of Georgia
2. Ohio University, Athens
3. Pennsylvania State University
4. West Virginia University
5. University of Mississippi
6. The University of Texas, Austin
7. University of Florida
8. University of California, Santa Barbara
9. University of Iowa
10. DePauw University
11. Florida State University
12. University of Wisconsin, Madison
13. University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa
14. Sewanee -- The University of the South
15. Indiana University, Bloomington
16. University of Colorado, Boulder
17. University of Missouri
18. University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
19. University of Maryland, College Park
20. Michigan State University

Dragon Tatoo Series of Books Movies Messing with My Sleep Schedule
Have been spending way too much time with Lisbeth Salander this summer. Mom gave me all three books this summer as a kind thank you gift. We could not get the first book from the library so Alyssa started reading the second book. Went to see the first movie version( Swedish subtitles) and got hooked on the characters. Have read the first and second book now. The second was my favorite. Alyssa and I reading the third and fighting over who can read it first. Alot of fun.
Maybe The Ponds Are Still Safe
A string of great white shark sightings off Cape Cod has some tourists fearful and others hoping to catch a look at the giant creatures themselves. Call it "Jaws" mania.Officials in Chatham, Massachusetts are warning beach-goers to stay close to shore after several shark sightings near the town.
In a notice on the town's website, the harbormaster warns, "Swimmers should exercise caution while swimming in Chatham's ocean waters."The notice further suggests, "If a shark is sighted, please get out of the water."
The town is also prohibiting swimming within 300 feet of areas with seals, as seals often attract the giant sharks.
On Tuesday, a 12-foot shark was tagged by the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries off Chatham's South Beach. At least three others were spotted close to popular beaches, officials said.
The largest great whites are about 20 feet in length and weigh about 5,000 pounds.
Of course all this comes at the height of the beach-going season in Massachusetts.

The End of an Era-The Holden Inn Must Be Panicked
Outdoor showers have a dirty little secret: They aren't always so clean.
At least not environmentally — or with regard to the law. When used for purposes beyond rinsing off after a day at the beach, outdoor showers violate Title 5 of the state Environmental Code, Cape health officials said.
"It's one thing to wash off quickly," said Dennis Health Department Director Terry Hayes. "But when you are doing outside what you would be doing inside — using soap — then it's a violation of Title 5."
Under Title 5, other gray water producers such as indoor showers and washing machines are permissible so long as they are linked to the septic system.
"There's no question that it is a Title 5 issue if someone is using soap in an outdoor shower," said Ed Coletta, spokesman for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. "The requirement is that runoff, or the result of that shower, should be going into a septic system."
But linking outdoor showers to septic systems creates a conundrum, officials said, as Title 5 also prohibits drainage that allows stormwater into septic systems.
Even if the shower drains were capped, he said, stormwater could still leak into the septic tank.
"So you have an outdoor shower: How do you prevent rain water from getting directly into the septic system?" Hayes asked rhetorically. "You enclose the shower, and now you don't even have an outdoor shower."
'Showing poor judgment'
However, Cape health officials said the gray water produced from soaping, scrubbing and shampooing outside is tantamount to washing one's car or pet and does not, ultimately, create a risk so dire as to merit enforcement.
"Anybody who is enforcing that is showing poor judgment as far as I'm concerned," said Nantucket Department of Health Director Richard Ray. "It is gray water; it doesn't get beyond the upper levels of the soil. ... Next thing, we can't spit."
Hayes, along with other Cape health officials, said the showers are too popular — and account for too little gray water — to make enforcement a feasible option.
Informing the public is the ideal way of curbing the environmental impacts of outdoor showers, he said, adding that a plastic or gravel-lined dry well installed 4 to 5 feet above the water table would be sufficient.
Ray disagreed, saying that installing a dry well would only exacerbate the minimal environmental impact by bringing the gray water closer to the water table.
"You're putting that soapy water even closer to groundwater," he said. "You want it on the surface so it is absorbed in the root zone and everything else." But, regardless of how gray water is disposed, "there's just no way around (Title 5)," Hayes said.
Enforcement is not only impractical, but virtually impossible, as well. Town officials would have to catch violators in the act, Hayes noted. That, he joked, would lead to Peeping Tom complaints. "That's an invasion of privacy."
Furthermore, if health departments were to crack down on outdoor showering, officials said residents would first receive violation notices and only enter the court system if the problem continued. In Nantucket, Ray said violators could receive $100 fines because the town adopted the state code as its local code.
But that scenario is unlikely, health officials said, as towns continue to turn a blind eye.
"It's one of those policies that no one enforces because everyone has an outdoor shower," said Chatham Department of Health Agent Judith Giorgio. "We don't feel it's worth the enforcement. I think the state would look at it the same way. "Hayes said the laissez-faire approach would go down the drain only if contaminated water were traced specifically to gray water from outdoor showers. Gray water, a form of wastewater produced by domestic sanitary activities, contains bacteria that can lead to contaminated water. And its nitrates and phosphates can spur algae blooms in seawater and freshwater, respectively.
Within the past month, a boil order and a water quality advisory have been imposed on the Cape and Islands after tests revealed high bacteria levels in water, raising concerns over a potential E. coli outbreak. So far, health officials said they have been unable to quantify the amount of gray water produced from outdoor showering.
Part of the culture
Officials have also been unable to estimate the number of outdoor showers. Since becoming a local mainstay decades ago, the showers have evolved from open-air spigots in the backyard to enclosed spaces featuring towel racks and painted doors. "They've been part of the Nantucket beach culture ever since showers were around," Ray said.
Like many Cape residents, Vaughn Harding of Hyannis said he was unaware that outdoor showers can, at times, violate Title 5 standards. After working in his yard for hours on a hot day, he said the experience of showering al fresco is nothing short of Zen-like.
"I think it's probably the greatest feeling in the world," said Harding, who added that he has installed a dry well. "You have a hot day, doing a lot of yard work, it's just incredibly refreshing to shower outside. It feels very natural.
"I find it very reinvigorating."
Though some use their outdoor showers throughout the year, Harding said he uses it as long as he can before temperatures grow too cold.
But Sandwich resident Raymond Lynch said he removed his outdoor shower in early May after learning of the Title 5 issues.
"Putting water on the ground is no big deal," he said. "But I knew that the soap would be an issue, and that would create gray water and that would be illegal. I never used it again."
